By: C. Kent, aka (Superman) It was supposed to rain today and I was supposed to have a doctor’s office so I put together a simple ride that would get our legs moving and back home early. When I got up I was fully expecting the streets to be wet and maybe it would be raining. However it was clear, cold and at least in front of my house it was dry. So I layered up and put on one of my wool jerseys and headed for Burger King and coffee. It was not a good morning for me because when it was time to leave the house I could not find my spare keys. Then I couldn’t remember where I had my glove liners or my warm socks. But finally I was all together and made it to Burger King to meet Digger and Highlander already sipping coffee. Dragon Slayer and Magic Man rode up followed by Scott and last but not least Sasquatch. Only seven of us but it didn’t matter because the day was shaping up to be a lot nicer than I expected. Highlander got us started out onto Gilmore and heading for Acacia. I got us to Kirby where we turned south to Cypress and headed west.

Dragon Slayer and I talked as we headed through the housing tract and commented on his new Zip 303 wheels. He was telling me they felt real good and I translated that to the idea that he was going to push the ride on Domenigoni to the Saddle once we got there. But still one of the good parts about riding with Dragon Slayer is he doesn’t push the pace at the beginning of the ride so at least my old legs have a chance to warm up before we have to try and catch the comet. We made the turn onto Sanderson and they let me lead past Stetson and Wally World at headed for the light at Mustang.

I took us onto Domenigoni and pulled over the rise before giving the lead to Highlander. Highlander did yeoman’s work pulling us past Warren and over the dry wash before Dragon Slayer and Magic Man started to move up on the inside to take the lead. Highlander fell in on their wheel quickly dropping Scott, Digger, Sasquatch and me. I stayed in the back till Scott moved by Digger and then went after the fleeing threesome. Well before Winchester Highlander fell off the wheel of Magic Man and the two pulled away. I decided to pull in front of Highlander and take the four of them to the Saddle for a regroup.

Once we dropped off of the back side of the Saddle we quickly headed for Laguna Vista and over to the stop sign so we could come back to Briggs and head south towards Holland. I was still out front as we rode past the chicken farm and the dairy before giving the lead up to Dragon Slayer.

It was time to play as we past Holland and closed in on Garboni. Dragon Slayer took the lead out with Magic Man and me on his back wheel. When he down shifted Magic man pulled away and I followed. I waited till Magic Man shifted and started a spin a bith higher and took the lead myself. I had waited late enough that I could keep the pressure up to the turn. We headed west towards Menifee and Dragon Slayer pulled up next to me and we headed for the rise. Dragon Slayer did to me just what I had done to him and Magic Man and dropped me in a sprint for Menifee. Turnabout is fair play as they say. We then headed for Antelope after a regroup and this time I stuck to Dragon Slayer like a baby duck and followed him north. Just before the rise at the light I sprinted by Dragon Slayer catching the light green and leaving him at the red. No one ever said life is fair and I headed for the college alone. Dragon Slayer and Magic Man headed for home when we turned at the college and I ended up leading the remaining group to Lindenburger before Scott too over and pulled us to Leon. I got us to Winchester and then pulled to Stowe and Winchester so we could stop for coffee before heading for home.

We didn’t stay at Winchester Farms very long before we headed east on Stowe to California. I continued leading to Stetson and then to Warren where Highlander took over and headed for the airport. Scott and I stayed on Stetson and we split up at Sanderson where I dropped over to Johnston and headed for home myself. I got home for lunch and a hot shower and maybe a little nap in the easy chair, but with a feeling that I had a good ride with good people. Yes I like this group of friends.
