6/06/2012 By: C. Kent, aka (Superman) It was another nice morning as I stood on the front porch and looked down the street first thing. I planned the ride for my backup bike because my primary bike was in the shop yesterday getting serviced and new parts installed. To my surprise and pleasure they had all of the parts in stock and I got to pick it up yesterday afternoon. I decided it just might be an easier ride than I had thought and had that attitude as I left the house and headed down Palm. I got there to see Centaur and Highlander talking and unloading their bikes. Surgeon pulled up just before Dura Max and Ocelot rode up. They left just before Huntress arrived and we were ready to take off on a ride east. But first we had to get down to Acacia. We quickly made our way down Gilmore and onto Acacia before making it to Kirby and just getting the light green. As we headed south everyone looked pretty relaxed and I wondered if I was going to get pushed if I tried to hold the pace down. We turned west towards Johnston and Sanderson and quickly made it through the housing tract. We didn’t have long to wait at the red light before we were heading back south on Sanderson and moving towards Domenigoni. I took the first pull on Domenigoni and kept it past Searl before turning the lead over to Huntress. We would be riding east to State Street and turning south again so we could work our way over to McSweeney and around through the houses. Huntress didn’t back it down one little bit as we turned on State Street and kept the pace up all the way to McSweeney where we turned left and more or less cruised around the houses before heading back out towards State. As we pulled out onto State things picked up a bit and Centaur took us back to Domenigoni at a rather energetic pace. We caught the light on Domenigoni and once we were started again Centaur was back out in front. He pulled us almost all the way to the rise before Chambers and I took over till we turned right and worked our way to Buena Vista. Surgeon took us to Santa Fe and then I got back out in front on Stetson and we headed east. I started to turn on Columbia but Surgeon and Highlander insisted we go straight down Stetson to Fairview. Huntress pulled from Lake to just before Fairview where Highlander took over till we made the turn north. I ended up in the dreaded first slot as we headed for the sprint point. I dropped the hammer and headed for the culvert crossing but Huntress was on my back wheel like a cheap suit and wouldn’t let go. I expected any moment before we got to the elementary school that Huntress would stand on it and pass me but I lucked out and she didn’t. We all took turns pulling back to Ramona and then up to Washington and over the River to the golf course on Soboba. Highlander started the run through Soboba canyon and got us rolling in the 20s. I took a turn in the front and then Centaur took over and I followed him all the way to the last little hill where I came back out front. I got us down to State and then Huntress took us back to Ramona and we headed back to Carl’s on new Chicago for coffee and conversation. We were still there when Dura Max and Ocelot pulled up so we all had coffee together. When we headed back west I knew Huntress would be leaving us early and only 4 of us were left to make it back to Burger King. Huntress left us as we past here street and the rest of us worked our way down Lincoln. It had turned out to be a great day and the weather was close to perfect. We chatted as the blocks slid by and we past Lake again before getting close to Park where we would make the jog over to Devonshire and drive hard for State again. I stayed with the group as we worked as we got back to Santa Fe and down to Latham before making the final run towards Burger King. We rolled past Buena Vista and the police Station and then caught the light at State but only for a second and headed west again. I said good bye at Palm and headed for home where I pulled up to the front porch with 39 miles on the computer. All in all I was impressed with how smooth the ride was today. Good ride, good weather and good friends.
