I got up this and realized the last two weekday rides just may have left me with a cold. It was cold this morning so I didn’t know if I was feeling a chill or just the weather. I stumbled outside to get the paper and took one look at the sky and knew that no matter how I felt I was going to get in a ride today. It may have been pretty cold but it was clear and beautiful.
I got to Burger King just ahead of Ocelot and shortly after Duramax and Centaur. The next thing I saw was Surgeon, and Highlander pulling into the parking lot followed by Gambler, Bounty Hunter and Jeff. We got a brief visit from Shadow but he couldn’t stay because he still had a kid to take to school but Raptor did decide to join us so we had a pretty even ten riders ready to go at 8am.

The ride down Gilmore was easy enough but I knew there would be very few sprints for me today. I just didn’t have that much steam but I was still enjoying the ride and the clear sky. We made it onto Acacia and finally over to Sanderson together and it was still a pretty easy ride. We made the turn onto Wentworth and had our first little rest stop, Bounty Hunter flatted. It was at this point the group had its first split. Raptor and Highlander made sure we had everything we needed and then took off ahead of us.

We got back on the road and made it to Stetson where the pace picked up a bit till we got to California and Stowe. After about ¼ of a mile on Stowe Gambler, Hit man and Jeff opened up a lead and started the traditional sprint to the parking lot. I didn’t feel much like giving chase so I stayed with the rest of the group expecting to see Raptor and Highlander before we got to Winchester. We all pulled into the market parking lot on Stowe and Winchester where Duramax and Ocelot left early planning to make a quick stop at the little store on Florida and Menifee where we expected to catch them.

We did stop at the store but no one was there. Somehow we missed Duramax and Ocelot and we never saw Raptor or Highlander. After refilling our fluid bottles we were back on the road and headed for McCall and the turn west. Gambler, Jeff and Hit man were still full of energy and they once again took the lead heading up the hill. Bounty Hunter pushed me up the hill on McCall and I broke off from the group at Bradley to make a quick stop at Cossack’s Church. We regrouped at Newport and Bradley and headed for the Domenigoni saddle where we spread out for at least ¼ of a mile befoe more or less regrouping at Winchester.

I fell off of the pace line at Warren and Bounty Hunter and I rode together till we got back to Kelly’s where Surgeon, Hit man and Centaur were waiting for us. Duramax and Ocelot showed up as did Raptor and Highlander as we took a break for coffee and conversation. It may not have been the best ride I have had and I might not have felt as good as I have on other rides but it was great weather and I had a great time. It was real close to 40 miles by the time I got home and I might have been tired but I wasn’t sore. All in all it was a good day to ride with good friends.
