After all of the rain on Thursday I was a bit surprised when I looked outside and the street was pretty dry and the sky looked relatively nice. At the very least it should cool things down a bit. I decided it would be a good day for a ride and I had a reasonable one planned.
Sherpa and Duramax were talking as I pulled up to Burger King and Ruby Tuesday, T-3 and Rocket pulled up shortly after I did. Hit man, Centaur, Highlander, Bounty Hunter, Surgeon and Warden arrived just before 8am and we left almost immediately for a flat ride west. I pulled out onto Gilmore feeling pretty good about the group and the ride.

Sherpa wasn’t feeling up to the ride so he decided to head for home just as we were getting started. Still we had 11 people heading for Sanderson and finally up to Domenigoni. I thought the group would split up on Domenigoni rather quickly but that didn’t happen. We took turns pulling until Centaur got the lead and suddenly we were cruising along at 26 MPH with me at the tail end hanging on for dear life. The group got to Winchester all together but we started to spread out and by Leon we had two groups. We stopped at the top of the saddle and then headed for Menifee road and turned towards Scott. At the top of the second hill Duramax informed me that he and Ruby Tuesday and T-3 wanted to get on more miles so they would be leaving us at Scott and Haun.

As we lined up on Haun I looked forward to the run towards Holland then Newport. After taking a picture or two I started to pick up the pace and soon we were cruising down the road at 25 MPH. The draft still held and we kicked it up to 27 MPH. It takes a lot of effort to push from 25 to 27 but I was still feeling pretty strong. I fell into the drops and soon we were hitting 30MPH. I was thinking about shifting into my highest gear when Rocket and Bounty Hunter went flying passed me. Some of us made the wrong turn at Holland but we regrouped and stopped at Newport to refuel and take off again.

We pulled back onto Newport and headed for Bradley to make a turn towards McCall. So far the weather had held and it was still reasonably cool. I was also surprised that I had recovered pretty much from the run down Haun and was almost looking forward to the climb on McCall. Well to be honest I never look forward to a climb but I didn’t dread it either.

We got split up at the light just over the freeway so half of the group had to wait till the other half got up McCall before we made the run towards Simpson and Leon. Once we got on the dump road the pace picked up a bit and as we crested the slight rise on ninth a full sprint was on. We were pretty spent by the time we got to Chris’s but it felt good to push ourselves to our limit just to see what we had in the tank. After a short stop we hit the road for home and Highlander, warden and I got a late start on the run. Everything went fine till we got to the airport where I got a flat and Warden took a fall. Warden shook off the fall and I managed to change the flat so we headed back to Burger King. I can only hope Warden isn’t too stiff tomorrow because I know the last time I laid my bike down I hurt for weeks. With exception of the fall it was a pretty good ride and I had just over 40 miles on the clock when I got home.
