There was no indication last Saturday or even Monday that summer had left us but that all changed today. The weatherman was predicting a winter type storm, cold and rainy with wind and I had no reason to doubt him. When I got up and looked outside first thing this morning it looked pretty dark. Still it hadn’t started to rain so after checking with one or two riders it was off to Burger King to see who would show up.
It turned out to be a small group as we got ready to give the ride a try. Huntress, Full Throttle, Dura Max, D’Artagnon, Gambler, Vortex and Highlander joined me as we pulled out onto Gilmore and then to acacia and Kirby. It was cold but still not raining as we headed down Kirby to Cypress.

We moved through the housing tract on Cypress and then out to Sanderson with just a touch of wind but still no rain. We turned north on Sanderson and the west past the airport and just a touch or moisture and a little head wind started to hit us.

It didn’t take long to pass the few building on the airport road and over or around the speed bumps and finally headed back out on Stetson towards Warren. Huntress seemed to be doing pretty good after being off of her bike for so many weeks. Dura Max and I started to fall back to ride with her but she simply pulled ahead in pursuit of D’Artagnon and Gambler.

I watched as Highlander and Full Throttle pulled ahead and turned onto California well in front of the rest of the pack. When Dura Max and I turned onto California it started to lightly rain and the wind was getting just a bit stronger. As we moved to Winchester and the market parking lot we could easily see the farther west we went the wetter we were going to get. Everyone pulled under the covering at the little market and discussed how we wanted to finish the ride. A consensus was reached and we turned for home trying to outrun the coming rain. I ended up riding back to Burger King with Huntress and Dura Max.

When we got back to the cars we talked briefly with Highlander and Vortex before the leading edge of the rain reached us. I bid a quick good bye to everyone and raced for home before I got soaked and had to spend half of a day cleaning my bike. But it was good to see Huntress back on her bike and it is good to have even an impromptu recovery ride.
