They call this time of year June gloom because it gets overcast and grey. When I opened the drapes this morning it looked like the marine layer had come all the way from to coast. It wasn’t too cold but we couldn’t see the sun either. My biggest hope was that it wouldn’t keep people from showing up for the ride.

Sidewinder stopped by my house to get some Cylomax and we rode over to Burger King together. We got there just before everyone else started to show up. Soon we had Rocket, Duramax, and Brian, T-3, Hit man, Ocelot, Surgeon, and The Phoenix. By 8 we were ready to hit the road and we were planning on meeting Quicksticks during the ride.

I took the lead and we all made it down Gilmore to Acacia and finally over to Kirby. We all made the light at Kirby and headed for the housing tract and the jump over to Johnston. Like most days we slowed down to regroup on Cypress and chatted casually as we rode west.

We all turned safely onto Sanderson and headed for Domenigoni. As we got close to the turn on Domenigoni Brian, Rocket and Sidewinder decided to make a hard run for the Domenigoni saddle and the rest of us followed in a steady pace line. Soon Duramax, Hit man Ocelot, T-3 and I were running along at a pretty steady 20 to 21 MPH. We held that pace all the way to Winchester where we came up on Power Surge and two of his friends. We rode together till two or three guys made a break around me heading for the saddle. Hit man couldn’t let the challenge go unanswered so he attacked the hill to hold up the honor of our group. We regrouped at the top of the saddle and headed down the hill towards Menifee and then turned up to Holland and turned again to Briggs Street. We turned left again and headed back towards Domenigoni.

We made a quick run back over the saddle and turned on Winchester to make a quick relief stop at Chris’s. We lost Rocket and Brian to time constraints but we picked up Quicksticks and headed for Stowe and east to California Street. We followed Surgeon to Stowe where after we were half way to California Ocelot decided to take the lead.

Surgeon pulled back in front and took us to Stetson and down to Warren road. Looking at my cycle computer I noticed we had been averaging 16.3 MPH even for the B group. We were traveling in a pretty tight group as we got close to Warren road with Surgeon in the lead and the rest of us following.

Once we crossed over Florida on warren we were in relatively new territory as we got to Devonshire and turned left. Surgeon had informed me there were some interesting beautiful houses on that side of Warren and we would be able to avoid the narrow portion of Warren between Devonshire and Esplanade. I had planned on riding all the way to California before making a right but Surgeon knew a short cut and we only had to walk our bikes across a short patch of sand to ride on it. I will admit the ride through that neighborhood was interesting. The houses were huge and the property was equally large.

Once through the houses we were back onto Esplanade Surgeon broke off and headed for home and the rest of us continued on to Lyon and back down to Devonshire, where we lost The Phoenix who had to pick up her pet, before turning again on State to get to the C-note or the Old train station on Florida and State. It was time for coffee and war stories.

After coffee we broke up again with Hit Man and Sidewinder going one way and T-3, Ocelot, Duramax and I went down Latham back towards Burger King. I stayed with them till I got to palm before heading home. Duramax continued on with T-3 and Ocelot. It turned into 38 miles of pretty nice day as the marine layer burned off. I even had time to stop by the bike shop and go for an afternoon swim. All in all it was great day and another great ride.
