I have to admit I was really looking forward to the ride today. It didn’t hurt that it is one of my favorite routes. The reason I was looking forward to the ride was I had finally decided to get my bike fit to me. Today I would see if it was worth it.
I got to Burger King and several people were already there. Duramax, T-3, Ocelot and Sidewinder were talking as I parked my bike. We were soon joined by Rocket, Huntress, Power Surge, Surgeon and Short Cut. Noel, (Centaur) showed up as did Corey, and Hit man. By 8am it looked like we had our group even if one was missing so we decided to ride off down Gilmore and work out way over to Johnson and Sanderson. But the time we turned off of Kirby we picked up Full Throttle and we were ready to head for the Hemet Airport.

After passing the Airport and getting out onto Stetson we started to form a pace line and the group spread out a bit. We closed up just a bit as we turned off of California onto Stowe and Rocket decided to stretch his legs and we took off for Winchester road. I managed to catch a back wheel and hold on for a good part of the ride to the parking lot on Winchester and Stowe. I tried to run out front but simply didn’t have the juice and ended up falling off of the back and watching Sidewinder, Rocket and Power surge pull away from me. At the parking lot we regrouped and hit Winchester road at a pretty good clip. We ended up stopping at Chris’s and picking up Bounty Hunter and now we had 15 riders as we turned back to the old dump road.

Once again we picked up the pace and the group spread out again. You can always tell just before a new run is about to be made because everyone bunches up so they can be sure to grab a wheel as soon as someone decided to take the lead. Finally we broke into three groups as we headed up Brigs to Florida where the light regrouped us again. We spread out and then recollected at Florida till Power surge took the lead and pulled us to McCall. I felt pretty good and was able to attack the back of the hill but not hard enough to hold off Rocket, Hit Man, Sidewinder or Centaur. Once over the top of McCall we quickly raced down to a stop at the gas station just passed Bradley and then continued to the end of McCall to make the turn and backtrack on Cherry Hill. We had a short unintended stop at Jack in the Box in Sun City.

The planned coffee stop was at Kelly’s on Sanderson so it was going to be a quick ride down Domenigoni and passed Winchester. Sidewinder started the run at the backside of the Domenigoni Saddle and Rocket took off after him. I don’t normally attack the back or the Saddle but my bike was feeling pretty good to me so I took off after both of them. In no time we were over the top and heading down towards Winchester. We spread out once more and were partly regrouped by the light at Winchester. Bounty Hunter left us there and returned to his Truck parked at Chris’s. I fell back to ride with Hit man, Ocelot, T-3 and Duramax and we finally caught up with most of the group at Sanderson. It was a real treat to look over and see T-3 back with us again.

Once on Sanderson we were like horses heading for the barn and it was like we got more energy. Rocket left us at Stetson as did Sidewinder, Full Throttle and his son Corey. Still we had a pretty good group as we pulled into the Lowes parking lot only to hear a voice call out to Centaur using his real name. Much to our pleasure and surprise it was his wife Mary, (The Phoenix) who had tried riding to see if she was ready to rejoin us soon.

The little coffee shop almost had a quaint European feeling as we sat and talked while drinking coffee. I have had people tell me that they have belonged to clubs that do one thing or another differently than we do. They have more rules or more divisions between groups or more qualifications to ride. As I sat there visiting with my friends all I could think of was I feel sorry for any group than doesn’t have as much fun as we do. 40+ miles on my computer for the day and I felt as good if not better than before I started. No there isn’t much I would change with our structure. I like the people I ride with and that is even better.
